Holy Pally: Basic Techniques For Healing as a Holy Pally

In the beginning, healing as a holy paladin might seem difficult. This is because the mechanincs of holy paladins do not have the same immediate results as all other healing classes. In this article we will be covering the differences of holy paladin healing, vs some of the other healing classes, and how to overcome those obstacles. There are three major differences in healing as a holy pally from other classes.

1. There are no “hots” like a druids regrowth or a priests renew or prayer of mending that can be casted on players to heal them “pre” damage.

2. There are little or no aoe healing abilities. As multiple targets take damage, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep the party at full health.

3. Holy pallies have only one instant cast that heals for very little. This makes it a problem to heal “on the go”

4. No cooldown ability that heals the group.

One can see that healing as a paladin there are many challenges that one must overcome in order to heal with the efficiency of other healers.

However there are some things that paladins have to their advantage.

1. Paladins wear plate armor. This makes them a lot harder to down than clothies or leather wearers.

2. Through Divine Plea and properly gemmed with Intellect, one has an endless supply of mana.

3. Paladins are the only class that has the ability to help DPS reduce threat through use of Hand of Salvation.

A paladins healing mechanic differ from other classes in that they are single target healers. This being said, there are a couple of ways to work around this.

1. By casting Beacon of Light, one can heal two targets simultaneously. 99% of the time, it is best to cast this on the tank in conjunction with Sacred Shield to help boost heals while healing the party, and this will act as a multi target heal.

2. There is a Glyph for Holy Light which heals party members around the target for an additional 10% of damage.

3. Judgement of Light gives the paladin a way to allow party members to gain health as the attack their targets. On trash, one can target the target of the tank, or a target that  most of the party is attacking and help them to regain health. The Judgements of the Pure talent increases Seal and Judgement spells by 25% and further gives 15% increase to the holy paladin’s  melee and spell haste. This also works as a way to “pre” hot players. Through Judgements and use of Holy Shock, one can effectively heal targets on the go well enough to move and find a new position to plant and cast their holy light and flash of light abilites.

4. While paladins do not have a mass heal cool down, they have the ability to cast Lay on Hands. This combined with Beacon of light can heal two targets to full health instantly. This ability is great for healing two tanks, or ones self and the tank. in those times of massive raid damage.

In conclusion as one can see, a paladin has many abilities to help them competitively heal with other healer classes, and have a few perks of their own. There are other things to account for such as the paladins ability to cleanse and prevent silence with concentration aura that make huge contributions to a party/raid on the whole.
